How have we developed FilingBox?

We have been developing a file-server-based document management solution since 2006.

Existing EDMS (Electronic Document Management System) are usually difficult to use and have user interfaces. They normally ask the user to type in their information into a web-based form, which makes it difficult for users to register new files to the EDMS. Also, sharing knowledge is good, however, it can become troublesome over time.

To make the registration process easier for users, we are combining registering files to EDMS with saving files to PC.

Once a user saves a file on to a network drive, our EDMS server automatically registers the file with automized metadata such as author, date, summary, etc.

Not only that, it provides access management following the rank of a user in the organization chart.

It makes it easy for users to share and access the files together following their position.

Since continuing to develop FilingBox, one of our developers made a create-read-only file server by accident. We didn’t mean to make a ransomware prevention solution first, but that’s just what we did. We noticed that it would be the only way to completely prevent ransomware attacks.

After finding this solution, we have focused on creating a patent and developing the ransomware-proof file server. Now it’s used in major government organizations, financial companies and research institutions, which store important documentation in Korea.
